Jyväskylä’s lakes and Harju ridge
A bus tour offers an excellent opportunity to explore the history of Jyväskylä as well as its present day. On the trip you will see and hear why the city that has arisen between the Harju ridge and Lake Jyväsjärvi, separated from Lake Päijänne, is called a city of education, culture and sport and why many Finns would like to live in Jyväskylä. Seminaarinmäki hill and the university’s newer campus areas on the shore of Lake Jyväsjärvi provide fine examples of architecture from different periods. The Laajavuori and Hippos recreational centres serve both top-flight athletes and ordinary fitness fans throughout the year. The tour lasts 1.5 hours, price from € 87,00. Transport is not included in the price.

Säynätsalo is comprised of eleven islands in Lake Päijänne. It is Jyväskylä’s unique island suburb, the natural beauty of which is highly appealing. During the bus tour we take a comprehensive look at Säynätsalo’s attractions. We visit the church designed by Armas Lindgren and Bertel Liljeqvist as well as Säynätsalo Town Hall, completed in 1952 and designed by world-famous architect Alvar Aalto. We also take in Haikka lighthouse, the lush scenery of Lehtisaari, Satasarvinen hill, and admire the shimmering waters of majestic Lake Päijänne. Visitors will also learn the colourful history of the factory-owning Parviainen family and experience the island community of Säynätsalo as it is today. The tour lasts 2 hours, price from € 107,00. Aalto-themed city centre tour

During the tour you will hear how Alvar Aalto had the ability to dumbfound his public and close colleagues. On the bus tour you will see public and private buildings designed by Aalto, for example, the Workers’ Club and the Defence Corps Building dating from the 1920s. Planning of the city’s Administrative and Cultural Centre first began in the 1960s and the most recent building to be completed is the City Theatre (1982). Finland’s first Finnish-language teacher training college evolved into Jyväskylä College of Education, the buildings comprising which were finished for the most part in the 1950s according to designs by Alvar Aalto. The University of Jyväskylä’s park-like campus on Seminaarinmäki hill is explored on foot. The basic tour takes 1.5 hours, price from € 87,00. Transport is not included in the price.

Ecumenical tour of Jyväskylä
The Jyväskylä Region features numerous buildings belonging to different religious denominations and groups. Uno and Wolmar at 200 – towering figures of Finland’s Athens

In Lutakko old and new Jyväskylä literally come face to face. Sights during the tour include the Renaissance-style Schauman Mansion, Innova, the city’s tallest building, Jyväskylä Paviljonki, Jyväskylä’s international congress and trade fair centre, and Travel Centre, a modern rail/coach interchange. From Aren aukio square to Seminaarinmäki – explore the city centre on foot
The centre of Jyväskylä, bounded by Lake Jyväsjärvi and the Harju ridge, is easy to explore on foot. As recounted by gravestones – a walking tour of Jyväskylä’s Old Cemetery
What do the mature deciduous trees and old gravestones have to tell us about Jyväskylä’s history? The memorials in Cygnaeus Park remind us of the wooden church that once stood on the spot and of Uno Cygnaeus, the father of Finland’s elementary school system. The statues in Lounaispuisto park are linked by music. Join the tour and hear fascinating details of the city’s history, the cityscape, and naturally of the figures that shaped its past. Walking tour of Seminaarinmäki hill and the ‘Älylä’ area of the city
The tour takes in what has often been described as Finland’s most beautiful campus, the development of which from teacher training college times into a university is illustrated by a rich variety of buildings. The ‘Älylä’ area, which previously housed many academic staff, is full of fine old buildings and tales of cultural personages. The tour departs from outside the university library and takes 1.5 hours, price from € 87,00.
